Introducing our new PPI Lay Lead – Molly Fenton

Molly Fenton speaking at the Wales Cancer Research Conference 2026

We are delighted to welcome Molly Fenton as the new Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Lay Lead at WCRC. Bringing a wealth of experience in health advocacy, public engagement, and patient representation, Molly has dedicated her work to amplifying the voices of patients and the public – particularly young people navigating complex health challenges. Molly joins WCRC with enthusiasm, insight, and a strong commitment to making a difference:

“Hi! I’m Molly and I will be taking over as WCRC PPI Lay Lead! My background is in health advocacy, especially for young people. From mental health to women’s health and also to extreme illness like I’ve experienced myself. I’ve run social media platforms and a podcast to talk about life as a young person living with a brain tumour and have been volunteering across the third sector in ensuring public and patient voices become more central in the very matters that impact them.

I’m really excited to be joining WCRC and adding to the fantastic work I’ve already seen (yes I’ve been researching!!) and really put to use something that I’m just so passionate about. I think it’s fascinating that we really can contribute to changing the future for cancer patients. I’ve done a lot of policy work with charities and frequently visit the Senedd/Westminster talking about innovation and the future, so to be able to contribute but also learn from you all here truly is a privilege.”

Molly’s appointment marks an important step in strengthening patient and public involvement across WCRC, and we are excited to see the perspective, energy, and lived experience she brings to the role. Her work will help ensure that patient voices remain central to research, innovation, and decision-making, particularly as the Centre continues to develop its engagement with diverse communities. We look forward to working closely with Molly as she builds on existing initiatives and helps shape meaningful, inclusive involvement across Wales.
