L-R Rosie Mundy, Emma Swift and Hannah Preston

The Wales Cancer Research Centre is delighted to congratulate two of our funded researchers, Emma Swift and Rosie Mundy, on their success at the recent Cardiff University School of Medicine PGR Excellence Awards.

Emma Swift, a member of the Viral ImmunoTherapies and Advanced Therapeutics Laboratory (VITAL) research team, received the prestigious Lesley Jones Award for School of Medicine PhD Student of the Year, recognising her outstanding contributions to research and academic excellence.

Rosie Mundy was honoured with the PGR Student Engagement Award, which celebrates individuals who make exceptional contributions to public engagement, community partnerships and engagement activities. Reflecting on the award, Rosie said:

“It means a lot to be nominated for this award, especially by my PhD supervisor Alan Parker who first invited me to get involved in public engagement activities! Congratulations to all the nominees and winners, it was lovely to get to celebrate so many students’ and supportive staff members’ achievements!”

The event was a fantastic celebration of impactful science and highlighted the strength of Cardiff’s virology research community. Alongside Emma and Rosie’s achievements, Hannah Preston was recognised with the Impact and Innovation Award for her pioneering work developing novel therapeutics to control CMV infection.

Congratulations to Emma, Rosie and Hannah on these well-deserved accolades!
